About Muay Thai Academy Int'l

One of the Oldest active Muay Thai and Close Quarter Combat training center in the United States.

Muay Thai Academy International (MTAI) was founded in 1990 and is considered to be one of the oldest active Muay Thai academies in the United States specializing in offensive combat and defensive tactics for civilians, law enforcement, military, and other high-risk operations specialists. Beginners are welcome at our Academy.

The founding fathers of this Academy are also the founders of the Henley Putnam University of Strategic Security, now the Henley Putnam School of Strategic Security under National American University, The Akribis Group and the Center for Terrorism and Intelligence Studies.

The Academy has over three and half decades of history of making individuals "stronger" which in turn is a part of the 1,000 year old tradition called Muay Thai or Thai Muay.

Additionally, our unique mind-body training method in Old Style Muay Thai, Close Quarter Combat Tactics, Self Defense and multiple opponents drills sets us apart from any other academy in the United States. The cumulative years of training and teaching experience amongst our regular and visiting instructors at the Academy is over 400 years with an average of 27 years of training and teaching experience per instructor.

The central principle of this Academy is to provide a safe and effective training center for practical combat application and self defense with the supervision of highly experienced and knowledgeable instructors.

The Academy runs it's operations similar to a non for profit entity (even though it is established under a corporate entity) where the focus strays away from the responsibility and burden of a profit center to distract us.

In our 37th year of service, we continue to prosper under this altruistic path. Our philosophy is that we are a "Village" and we take care our Academy together as a community.”

Our mission is that "if you walk through our front door and walk out of the back door and if you give us enough time in between, we will make you stronger... physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually".

Our Academy does not advertise. Most of our members come in through referrals from other active members of the Academy, and a few go out of their way to research and find us.

Our training program is unique and customized to individual needs. The type of training we provide is typically only accessible to law enforcement or military personnel.

Enrollment in our Academy is available to beginners and ultra-experienced members and provides training from basic to advanced levels, including instructor certification (select members). We do not offer ring-style or sports/competition-style training. Training is centered around self-defense and practical combat application only.

Enrollees must be over the age of 18, have a valid photo ID, and may not have felony records.

Beginners are welcome at our Academy

The Academy's Principal and Certified Senior Instructors are highly trained, skilled, and experienced. Moreover, some of our Principal Instructors of the Academy have extensive education and/or background in the areas of intelligence, protection, and counter-terrorism.

The Principal and Certified Senior Instructors are sometimes supported by a small cadre of Senior Instructors who have undergone a lengthy and rigorous qualification and training programs stretching over a period of 15 years or longer. Almost all of our Senior Instructors have been teaching and training at the Academy for 15 to 30-plus years. The efficacy of our training program has garnered interest from law enforcement, military, and national security communities. As a result, in the last 30 years, our corporate arm has provided exclusive training to various domestic and international government and national-security entities.
